Once High on the Mountain where the sun did shine
I made up my bed roll, I made up my mind
I been on my mountain for a long long time
I'm Comin to Take you away.

	Baby why'd ya leave me
ya know it'd gonna grieve me
Did you Take my lovin' Heart to do me wrong
Or didn't ya ever know where you belong?

When we was togetha, da city life called
I took what it gib' me, da luck and da draw
I knowed where I stood and I knowed where I fall
I'm Comin to Take you away.

	Baby why'd ya leave me
ya know it'd gonna grieve me
Did you Take my lovin' Heart to do me wrong
Or didn't ya ever know where you belong?

No time wa'd a long time when I wa'd wi'ch'you
But now wid' an hour, I just cain't get th'u
I count all da minutes and dem Seconds I count too...
I'm Comin to Take you away.

	Baby why'd ya leave me
ya know it'd gonna grieve me
Did you Take my lovin' Heart to do me wrong
Or didn't ya ever know where you belong?

I'm down f'om da mountain Ohn da Big Wide Plains
I see all dem roads and I see all dem trains
It's just so confusin' in dem Flash Fast Lanes
I'm comin' to take you away

But, Baby why'd ya leave me
ya know it'd gonna grieve me
Did you Take my lovin' Heart to do me wrong
Or didn't ya ever know where you belong?

But where do I fah'nd you in dis big city Maze
I'm lost in dis madhouse, dis jungle fo' days
I don't even know 'f I can see th'u that haze
I'm comin' to take you away?

Baby why'd ya leave me
ya know it'd gonna grieve me
Did you Take my lovin' Heart to do me wrong
Or didn't ya ever know where you belong?

I think I'm deler'ious 'n dis Dirty Black Fog
& Rather be Sittin' in some Hollowed-Out Log
How can dey Do it when dey Treated like Dogs?
Why don't dey just Take me aWay?

Oh, Baby why'd ya leave me
ya know it'd gonna grieve me
Did you Take my lovin' Heart to do me wrong
Or didn't ya ever know where you belong?

Oh--
I'm Outa here Baby I'ma Goin' ohn Back
Up high on my Mountain in the Adirondack
This Big city Life i just Know i cain't Hack
'r dey be Takin' me aWay.

Come on, Baby why'd ya Leave me
When ya know it'd gonna grieve me
Did you Take my lovin' Heart to do me wrong
Well if ya Did, i Know where I beLong:

I know where I come f'om; I know what's mine
't's Back up dis Mountain for a long, long time
'f'Ida Knowed w'ere you was goin' i'da said dat Do me Fine

But I'm never gonna Ever run away:
I'm here now where I'm always gonna Stay!

But now, Baby, Why'd ya Leave Me?
: Ya Know it'd gonna grieve me?
Did ya take my heart to leave me in a Song?
Cause show'ly now I Know where I belong.
	... show'ly now I KNOW where I belong.

This was the first of two "spontaneous" songs which came to me in the late night of Sat Oct 13th, 1990 (Actually the wee hours 3am of Sun Oct 14) as I was doing some other writing.

This one's about a guy who grew up in the Hills and was quite satisfied to be right there, but had a woman who wasn't. She ran off and went into the City, and at first he goes to try and find her and bring her back. But he almost gets killed trying to navigate just getting across a big highway, and once he gets into the City he can't figure out how ANYONE would want to live in such dirty noisy surroundings. He says he'd rather be living in a hollowed out log than have to deal with such filth. That's also about time he decides to just go back into the Hills and leave her. If she's running off to live in a place like that then he figures she deserves to be there. He and the simple life can't compete. So he goes back, not exactly happy to be without her, but certainly relieved and blissed out to be at home.

Check out also "Amy Get Your Butt Home" which is an Irish jig, while this one has more of a blues flavor. Maybe I'll post some of the mp3s I have of these songs sometime?
